Establishing Eda Davara Marine Sanctuary
INTRODUCING THE "EDA DAVARA MARINE SANCTUARY" PROJECT 🌊
Over the past few months, we have been working on our new project, the "Eda Davara Marine Sanctuary". In this project, our aim is to establish a marine research centre and sanctuary in the project site. The purpose of the project is to provide a platform for university students who have interests in research to implement their projects within the sanctuary. Apart from this, the sanctuary will also serve as a learning hub for students to interact with different Maine ecosystems and the organisms found within them.
We established Kohua Beach in Barakau Village as a sanctuary. In June, the team surveyed the mangrove forest to profile a fraction of it so that mangrove species could be identified and researched. This month, the team will be profiling the seagrass communities so that KLC can run its first set of school student activities during the school holidays.
